Jailbreak 5K
The Jailbreak 5K is a themed running event in Mobile, Alabama, with the course starting and finishing at Mardi Gras Park on South Royal Street. The race uses a certified 5K course that passes the Mobile County Jail and several bonding companies and follows flat, shaded roads.
Event categories include adult and youth entries with shirt and no-shirt options, plus a virtual entry called Virtual Escape. Two in-person categories are listed with a distance of 3.1 Miles. Entry fees vary by category and some entries include items such as an inmate t-shirt, a fugitive ID bib, recovery contraband, and winners’ loot. To guarantee a shirt on race day, applications and fees must be submitted by October 21; shirts remain available after that date as inventory allows.
Registration accepts mailed entries postmarked by October 28, in-person registration at local stores in Mobile until noon on November 13, and online registration through Runsignup until early November 13. Race day packet pick-up and registration occur at Mardi Gras Park near the corner of Royal and Government Street.
Awards are given to the top male and female overall and to the top three male and female finishers in multiple age groups from 9 and under through 85 plus. Finisher medals are awarded to the first 200 runners to cross the finish line. After the race there is a photo setup resembling a jail cell and post-race snacks and beverages.
