Jack Settles Deerfly Stomp 5K
The Jack Settles Deerfly Stomp is a trail event held on July 11, 2026 at North Lake Park, 3600 Grand Mere Road, Stevensville, MI 49127. The event is presented as a roughly 5 km trail run through the woods of Grand Mere State Park and is organized to raise funds for Alzheimer’s disease causes.
This is an untimed event. Participants use a Tred-Not Deerfly Patch placed on a hat to catch deer flies; the winner is the participant who catches the most deer flies. Organizers will actually count caught deer flies. The only explicit rule named is the "Dee Berry" rule, which prohibits taking another participant’s patch. Prizes are awarded to the top three catchers.
Registration opens February 1, 2026 and closes July 11, 2026. The registration fee is $20. For a one-time $50 donation, a name can be added to the back of the event shirt in perpetuity as a "Beloved Warrior."
This is the seventeenth official year of the Deerfly Stomp. Over the previous 16 years organizers report approximately 3,500 deer flies caught and more than $14,000 donated to the Alzheimer’s Association. The event materials also include several Alzheimer’s statistics such as an estimated 6.9 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s and projections that number could rise to 13 million by 2050.
