Event Details
The Jack Settles Deerfly Stomp 5K is a fundraising event for the Alzheimer's Association. It is not a timed running race.
Participants run a roughly 5 km course through the woods of Grand Mere State Park in Stevensville, Michigan. The event is centered around catching deer flies using a "Tred-Not Deerfly Patch," which participants attach to a hat. The winner is the participant who catches the most deer flies during the run, and prizes are awarded to the top three catchers. The primary rule, known as the "Dee Berry" rule, prohibits stealing another participant's fly patch.
This event is in its 17th year. Over the past 16 years, organizers state that approximately 3,500 deer flies have been caught and over $14,000 has been donated to the Alzheimer's Association. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
