Isel Cross Race

The Isel Cross Race is a 10 km multi-terrain event organized by Derwent Athletic Club that begins and ends at Cockermouth School. The course layout features a mixture of surfaces and elevations. The first three miles of the route follow undulating roads before the track transitions onto uneven terrain. Participants then climb through Setmurthy Woods before returning to the school via a downhill section across fields.

Due to the variety of surfaces, runners are advised to choose footwear that suits both the terrain and the weather conditions. The highest point of the course is exposed to the elements, which may require participants to wear warmer layers. Under UKA rules, the use of earphones is prohibited on the open road sections of the race.

The event features the following distance:

The race is fully chip-timed, and live results are provided online. Every participant who completes the distance receives an Easter Egg at the finish line. Registration is open to individuals with a minimum age of 15.

Participants can access limited parking at Cockermouth School, with alternative parking available on nearby public roads. Entrants also receive a discount at a local sponsor’s shop in Cockermouth over the Easter weekend upon proof of entry. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs.
