IRONMĀORI Wero 2026
IRONMĀORI Wero 2026 is a short distance indigenous triathlon held in Hawke's Bay at the Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park, 42 Percival Road, Frimley, New Zealand, on 24 May 2026. The event follows the IRONMĀORI kaupapa and returns to Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga, where the idea for the event was conceived.
Distances offered include:
- Individual Triathlon: 500 m swim, 20 km cycle, 5 km run
- Team Triathlon: 500 m swim, 20 km cycle, 5 km run
- Solo 500 m swim
- Solo 20 km cycle
- Solo 5 km walk or run
The event was designed to be physically demanding and to encourage participants to make lifestyle changes that support ongoing wellbeing. IRONMĀORI currently runs three triathlon events annually across Aotearoa and has developed a kaupapa that integrates physical training with education and role modelling. The event brings together Kaumātua, Rangatahi, and Tamariki and promotes intergenerational hauora. Whanaungatanga and whākawhānaungatanga are central objectives, and the platform is described as safe and unbiased. Improvements to mental health and overall wellbeing are presented as outcomes that can accompany the physical aspects of training and participation.
