Wachau Marathon 2026
The WACHAUmarathon takes place in the Wachau region of Lower Austria, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The event is one of the most popular running competitions in Austria, attracting more than 7,000 international participants. The route follows the Danube River through a landscape characterized by vineyards, historical villages, and riverfront views.
A defining feature of this event is its course profile. The track is almost entirely flat and fast, making it suitable for runners aiming for personal best times. The atmosphere combines the feel of a major city marathon with a natural, scenic environment.
Participants can choose from several distances and categories:
- Marathon (42.195 km): Starts in Emmersdorf and finishes in Krems an der Donau.
- Half Marathon (21.1 km)
- Quarter Marathon (approx. 11 km)
- Relay Marathon: For teams of 2 to 4 people.
- Nordic Walking and other shorter distances.
The registration fee includes electronic timekeeping with a chip integrated into the bib number, refreshment points along the course, and luggage transport from the start to the finish area. Participants also receive access to an expo, a pasta party, and a downloadable certificate and results list.
