26th International WACHAUmarathon
The WACHAUmarathon takes place in the Wachau region, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its vineyards and medieval villages. The course runs along the Danube river, passing through a picturesque landscape of wine terraces. This event is recognized for its flat topography with minimal elevation changes, which allows runners to maintain a steady rhythm and supports fast finish times for all ability levels.
The event offers several race formats:
- 42.2 km Marathon starting in Emmersdorf
- 21.1 km Half Marathon starting in Spitz
- 11 km Quarter Marathon starting in Achleiten
- 21.1 km Nordic Walking Half Marathon
- Marathon Relay for teams of two, three, or four people
- Team Quarter Marathon for groups of four
- Junior Marathon for participants born in 2010 or later
The finish for all main races is located in Krems an der Donau. In addition to the competitive runs, a marathon expo is held at Messe Krems during the event weekend. Participants can collect their race numbers in Vienna earlier in the week or at the expo venue in Krems. The route provides a unique backdrop of historical architecture and natural scenery throughout the Wachau valley. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
