Ingeli Mountain Marathon
The Ingeli Mountain Marathon is a trail running event located at the ANEW Ingeli Forest Resort, situated on the border between KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape near Kokstad. The course is designed to feature the natural geography of the region, including wetlands, streams, forest canopies, and ridgelines.
Participants navigate a variety of terrain types such as flowing forest singletrack, dirt jeep tracks, open grassy stretches, and rugged mountain climbs. The event includes several distance options to accommodate different mountain running preferences:
- Marathon: A 40 km course with approximately 2,008 m of elevation gain.
- Long Course: A 19 km route featuring 967 m of elevation.
- Medium Course: A 10 km distance with 523 m of elevation.
- Short Course: A 6 km trail with 310 m of elevation.
The marathon route reaches one of the highest points on Ingeli Mountain and features four aid stations. The shorter distances provide between one and three aid stations. Mandatory equipment is required for participants, including a mobile phone, a minimum of 1L hydration capacity, a waterproof outer layer, a whistle, basic first aid strapping, an emergency blanket, and food reserves. Additional kit requirements for cold or hot weather conditions may also be enforced depending on the environment.
The event schedule typically spans a weekend, with registration and briefings held on Friday followed by the races on Saturday. Accommodation is available on-site at the resort. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
