Event Overview
The Ikara Ultra is a trail running event held in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges of South Australia. The name 'Ikara' means 'meeting place' in the language of the Adnyamathanha people, the traditional custodians of this landscape. The area is known for its ancient geology, with rock formations over 600 million years old that include significant Ediacaran fossils.
The Course
The event uses a network of trails that pass through various landscapes. Runners will go through old stations, parts of Wilpena Pound, along creeks, and past features like shearing sheds, homesteads, mountain tops, and ruins. The start location differs by distance, with the 100-mile event beginning at Mt Little Station. All distances finish at Wilpena Pound.
