Ian Roberts Memorial Fell Race
This is a fell race organised by Holmfirth Harriers, based at Marsden Cricket Club in Marsden, West Yorkshire. The course is partly flagged and runs on boggy, rough moorland on the edge of the Pennines.
Distance: 6.5 miles (10.3 km). Ascent: 260 m (850 ft). The route includes sections of the Pennine Way and the Standedge Trail, an ascent of Pule Hill, tussocky trods and several stream crossings. One footbridge on the descent has been removed for safety, so competitors should expect to cross water at the indicated place.
Registration is at Marsden Cricket Club and the start is a short walk from the club. Minimum age is 18 and the entry limit is 200. Pre-entry is available from 1 November 2025 until 12 March 2026; pre-entry fees are £7 for FRA members and £9 for non-members. On-the-day entry may be accepted if the event has not filled, subject to an additional fee. The race holds a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA.
Competitors should be prepared for winter conditions at this time of year and may be required to carry full FRA kit; the kit list for the day will be displayed at the cricket club. Hot and cold drinks and a cake spread are provided after the race. Runners are asked to remove muddy footwear before entering the clubhouse and not to clean shoes or socks in the sinks.
