Event details

The Ian Roberts Memorial Fell Race is scheduled for 15 March 2026. The course distance is 6.5 miles (10.3 km) with about 260 m (850 ft) of ascent. The event is based at Marsden Cricket Club, Mount Road, Marsden, HD7 6NN (grid reference SE 042108 / GR 046106). Minimum age is 18 and the entry limit is 200. Pre-entry is open from 1 November 2025 and closes on 12 March 2026. Pre-entry fees are £7 for FRA members and £9 for non-members. If the race does not fill, on-the-day entry is available at higher fees (£8 members, £10 non-members).

Course and logistics

The route is a partly-flagged fell course across boggy, rough moorland on the edge of the Pennines. It includes sections of the Pennine Way and the Standedge Trail, an ascent of Pule Hill, tussocky trods, catchwaters and quarries. The route description notes multiple footbridges and stream crossings; one footbridge has been removed and competitors should expect to get their feet wet at a stream crossing. Organisers advise carrying full FRA kit where required; specific kit requirements will be posted at the cricket club and must be followed. Hot and cold drinks and cakes will be available after the race. Runners are asked to remove muddy footwear before entering the clubhouse and not to clean shoes or socks in the sinks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
