Event Overview
The Howell Melon Run is the 49th annual edition of this event, organized by Howell Recreation and presented by ChemTrend. The event takes place on August 14, 2026, in downtown Howell. It welcomes runners, walkers, and participants using wheelchairs or other assistive devices.
Events
Four main events are offered:
- Howell Melon Roll: A short event for children aged 2 to 5.
- One in a Melon Mile: A one-mile run.
- Howell Melon 5k Run: A 5-kilometer race.
- Melon Mile & 5k: A combined event where participants run both the mile and the 5k, offering a discount on the combined entry fee. A "Mascot Dash" is also mentioned as part of the event lineup.
Additional Information
Early packet pickup is scheduled for August 11-13 at the Bennett Recreation Center (925 W Grand River Ave, Howell). Packets will also be available on-site on race day from 4:30 PM. Registration for the 5k and mile events includes a chance to earn a refund by referring friends who register; participants receive $1 back per new registration, up to $25.
Registrations completed on or before July 27, 2026, are guaranteed a short-sleeved shirt. Later registrants will not receive a shirt, but leftover shirts may be available for purchase after the event for $20 each.
Proceeds from the event support community programs in the Howell area. The race features chip timing by the Michigan Running Foundation, with results texted to participants and posted online. Awards include overall and masters categories for men and women, and finisher medals are provided. A special "Tri-Race 5k Bundle" is also available, combining this event with two other local races for a discount. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
