The event is sanctioned by USATF and organized by trail runners. The 50 mile course has approximately 9,700 feet of elevation gain. The marathon option has approximately 4,900 feet of elevation gain. Only athletes who complete the full 50 mile or 27 mile courses are listed as official finishers.

Course and aid stations

The race uses a 4 mile out-and-back to spread the field, followed by repeated 11.5 mile loops. Each 11.5 mile loop gains about 2,431 feet. The 50 mile distance comprises four loops; the marathon comprises two loops. Each loop starts and finishes at the Nyack Beach State Park trailhead and begins with a 1.6 mile climb to the summit of Hook Mountain.

The route includes a 2 mile run north along the Hudson River bike path, the Summit Trail, the Long Path along the Palisades ridge, a road crossing at Landing Road, a steep technical 0.5 mile descent on the Treason Trail to the river, and a 4.5 mile gravel bike path return to the start.

There are three aid stations on the loop, passed every 3 to 4.5 miles. All are stocked with water, sports drink, and energy gels. Personal drop bags can be left at Aid Station #1. Nyack Beach parking has a water fountain and bathrooms. The event enforces a 14 hour overall cut-off and a 7 hour cut-off at mile 27 for 50 mile entrants.
