Hoke Community Forest Dog Friendly Trail Run and Hike 5K
NC Urban Mushing and Hoke County Parks and Recreation present a dog friendly 5K trail event at Hoke Community Forest in Raeford, North Carolina. Participation is open to people with or without dogs. All dogs on site must have current rabies vaccinations and remain on leash at all times.
There are two types of starts. One start is for canicross teams, where the dog wears a non-restrictive harness attached to the human's waist belt; these teams begin individually at short intervals for safety. The second start is for the general run and hike, which includes participants with or without dogs. All finishers receive a commemorative finisher's medal.
The course is an approximately 3 mile loop through the NC Sandhills and Long Leaf Pines. Most of the route is a wide, smooth trail with hills. About one quarter mile is more overgrown but will have a cleared path to follow. Footing is primarily sand with a few rocks and roots and minimal trip hazards.
