Historic Nicodemus 5K Run Walk : August 1, 2026
The Historic Nicodemus 5K Run Walk is a 3.1-mile community running event held in Nicodemus, Kansas on August 1, 2026. The event is hosted by the Kansas Black Farmers Association and includes participant awards and post-race refreshments.
Registration is available online for a fee of $25 through July 31 and $35 on-site. Every registered participant receives a T-shirt and a medal. Top male and top female finishers are awarded trophies.
A free Pancake Feed follows the race, offering pancakes and sausage. The race and accompanying meal are presented in the context of Nicodemus’s local history. Nicodemus was founded in 1877 by formerly enslaved African Americans as a farming community focused on land ownership and self-sufficiency. It is noted as the only all-Black town west of the Mississippi River and is described as a community rooted in agriculture and generational legacy.
The Kansas Black Farmers Association organizes the event and works to preserve Black farmland and protect agricultural heritage. The association provides education, resources, and community support for farmers. The event combines a short-distance run-walk with commemorative recognition and a community meal.
