Heroes Against Hunger 5K - Little Rock
Heroes Against Hunger is an annual student-run event hosted by the Kelly-Rahn-Turnage Fellowship of Physician Assistant Students of UAMS. The event spans October 2 to October 3, 2026, and takes place at Murray Park, 5900 Rebsamen Park Rd, Little Rock, Arkansas. The main distance is a 5K (3.1 miles).
Proceeds benefit the Arkansas Food Bank Food for Kids program. Since the first race in 2014 the students have donated nearly $75,660, which helped provide about 378,000 meals to children in Arkansas. The event also aims to increase awareness of the Physician Assistant profession and coincides with National Physician Assistant week.
The course follows a scenic, paved route around Murray Park. The path is accessible with strollers and the event is described as kid friendly and pet friendly. Registered participants receive a custom event T-shirt; the standard run or walk fee is $30 and other participation options carry separate fees. Additional activities during the weekend include a family-friendly pie fundraiser featuring ticketed pies to professors and a Spirit Runner option offering an event T-shirt.
The organizing student group was founded in 2013 by the inaugural class of the UAMS Physician Assistant Program and is governed by students. Packet pick up and an awards ceremony are part of the race day activities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
