Heroes Against Hunger 5K (Little Rock)
The Heroes Against Hunger event is an annual 5K organized by the KRT Fellowship of Physician Assistant Students in Little Rock to benefit the Arkansas Food Bank Food for Kids program. The event raises funds for feeding Arkansans and runs each October to coincide with National Physician Assistant week and to increase awareness about the physician assistant profession.
The primary distance is 5K (3.1 miles). The course follows a scenic route around Murray Park, is fully paved, and is accessible with strollers. The event is described as kid and pet friendly. A custom event T-shirt is offered to participants, and a separate Spirit Runner option is available to obtain the event shirt.
There are additional community activities connected to the event, including a Walk With a PA Student 5K that pairs pre-PA students with second year PA students, and a Pie a Professor fundraiser. The Walk With a PA Student and Spirit Runner entries have separate registration fees; the Pie a Professor activity has no registration fee and sells tickets to participate in the fundraiser for one dollar each. Run and walk registration includes a T-shirt for the listed fee.
Organizers note the event operates as a charity and that no refunds will be issued for inclement weather or other cancellations. Since the first race in 2014, the student organizers have donated nearly $75,660 to the Food for Kids program, providing about 378,000 meals to children in Arkansas.
