The Helvetia 10k Mountain Run is an established trail running event held in the Swiss-inspired community of Helvetia, West Virginia. Located in southern Randolph County, the race coincides with the annual Helvetia Fair. The event has a long history, with its 27th edition scheduled for September 13th, 2026.
Course Information
The race features a single distance for participants:
- 10 km
The route follows portions of an original Swiss settlement trail and passes through the center of Helvetia. A notable landmark along the course is Clay Hill.
History and Traditions
The event began in 1998 and served as the initial inspiration for the West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners organization. The race maintains a connection to Swiss heritage through its event apparel; each year, the participant t-shirt features the coat of arms from a different Swiss canton.
Multi-Race Opportunities
Participants have the option to combine this race with another regional event to complete the "Black-Hel Double." This involves running the Blackwater Canyon Half Marathon on the preceding Saturday and the Helvetia 10k on Sunday. Runners who complete both events are eligible for a specific award. Registration for the Helvetia 10k typically opens in April. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
