Heidi Keen Classic Barley Bar Relay : Palouse, WA
The Heidi Keen Classic Barley Bar Relay is a team relay held in downtown Palouse during the Palouse Days festivities on September 19, 2026. Teams consist of four runners. Each teammate runs a 0.8 mile loop and then chugs a fizzy beverage before passing a slapband baton to the next runner; the full team distance is 3.2 Miles. The race ends after the fourth teammate completes their chug.
Registration for a full team is a single submission; the base team fee is $60 for four runners. Early registration pricing and higher onsite pricing are offered, and registration includes a race t-shirt, a slapband baton, and chances to win cash prizes. Prize categories listed by the organizer include fastest team, best costumes, and fastest individual chugger.
The team captain registers the full team and receives a follow-up message requesting e-waiver signatures for teammates, the team name, and shirt sizes. Runners without signed waivers cannot participate. Packet pick-up is handled at the start line and requires all waivers to be completed.
Non-alcoholic and gluten-free fizzy beverage options are available. A separate race chute outside the beer garden is provided for participants aged 15 to 20. Proceeds, donations, and sponsorships support an annual scholarship for a Garfield-Palouse graduate pursuing STEM. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
