About the race
Heart & Sole: The Rowan Jo 5K is the second annual memorial event held at Black Creek Park in Fultondale, Alabama. It honors the life of Rowan Jo and supports The Rowan Jo Foundation, which directs proceeds to scholarships and medical support related to congenital heart defects.
The event offers both in-person and virtual participation and includes these distances:
- 5K
- 1K
Registration opens on 2026-08-10. Registration deadlines and fees vary by option: the in-person 5K has a registration fee of $25 and the Kids 1K fee is $15. Two virtual 5K options are available: a virtual entry with a swag bag and shipping included for $50, and a virtual entry without swag for $15. Registration for in-person entries increases monthly. Virtual entries do not qualify for medal awards.
All proceeds benefit The Rowan Jo Foundation. The foundation aims to provide scholarships for people affected by congenital heart defects to help cover tuition, books, housing, and other qualified educational expenses. It also aims to support hospitals and medical institutions that provide care and treatment for congenital heart defects, and to help advance early detection and improve surgical outcomes.
On-site offerings include food trucks, music, and activities for all ages. Award details: the chip-timed 5K awards the top three overall male and female finishers, and the 1K awards finisher medals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
