Hazeldean Valley Scatter Run Orienteering
This is a rogaine style orienteering event at Hazeldean Valley Trails, Pretoria, organised by the Rand Orienteering Club. Participants use a map and may use a compass to navigate between checkpoints and collect as many points as possible within a chosen time limit. Entries are available for individuals or teams.
Courses and entry formats include:
- 150 minute course, about 15 km, solo or teams of 2 to 4
- 90 minute course, about 8 km, solo or teams of 2 to 4
- 60 minute course, about 5 km, solo or teams of 2 to 4
Navigation in the area ranges from moderate to tricky. Hazeldean Valley consists mostly of open areas, some thicker undergrowth and some wooded sections with a network of roads, tracks and paths. A compass is recommended. The event uses the SPORTident electronic timing system and SI chip hire is included in the entry fee.
Facilities and practical notes: toilets are available near the parking and start area, refreshments will be on sale at Hazeldean Brewery, and there will be limited water on the course so participants should arrange to carry their own. The area is used by permission of Hazeldean Valley Trails. Final instructions will be sent to entered participants before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
