Happy Chinese New Year is a self supported "fat ass" ultrarun held on February 20, 2027 in San Diego, CA. The event is organized by Best Runner Leaves No Tracks and uses a single loop course that starts and finishes at Canyonside Park Driveway, San Diego, CA 92126.
The loop is about 51 miles on mostly trail terrain with roughly 5,000 feet of cumulative ascent and descent. The event has no fees, no awards, no aid stations, and no course markings. Participants are responsible for navigation, safety, and carrying or planning all food and water for their run.
The route passes several public resupply points that organizers list for planning purposes, including water fountains at Old Pomerado Road / Bette Brendixen Park and Garden Road Neighborhood Park, a pair of gas stations near the midpoint where food and water can be purchased, Lake Hodges Visitor Center, and Paradise Produce Market. There is a long stretch without convenient refill points late on the loop in one direction, so runners should plan accordingly.
Organizers provide course files such as GPX and Garmin formats and recommend using a navigation app for route following and planning.
