Happy Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year is a self-supported trail event in San Diego, California, organized as a single loop of about 51 miles on PQ Canyon Trail and surrounding paths. The route includes roughly 5,000 feet of cumulative ascent and descent and is presented as a 50 Miler distance.

The event is run as a "fat ass" or self-support format: there are no entry fees, no awards, and no organized aid stations. The course is not marked, so participants must navigate and carry or plan everything they need for the run. Course files are provided in Garmin and GPX formats for navigation and planning.

Several public refill and resupply points are noted on the counter-clockwise route: a water fountain at Old Pomerado Rd/Bette Brendixen Park (about mile 5.7); a water fountain and restroom at Garden Rd Neighborhood Park (about mile 11.5); Chevron and Shell gas stations near mile 24.8; Lake Hodges Visitor Center near mile 28.4; and Paradise Produce Market near mile 35. The market is roughly 0.1 mile off the course and is the last convenient place to buy water and food for the final stretch of about 16 miles on the counter-clockwise routing.

Start and finish are listed at Canyonside Park Driveway, San Diego, CA 92126. Garmin course map and GPX files are available for route details and current direction information. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
