Happy Chinese New Year Run

The Happy Chinese New Year Run is a self-supported trail event held in San Diego on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The event is organized as a no-fee, no-aid "fat ass" run: participants must navigate the route and carry or obtain their own supplies. This year the route is run counter-clockwise.

Course and logistics

The route is a single loop of about 51 miles with roughly 5,000 ft of total ascent and descent, mostly on established trails around the PQ Canyon Trail area. The course is not marked, so navigation is required. The organizer recommends using RidewithGPS and provides downloadable route files and cues.

There are a few public refill and resupply points noted on the course, with approximate mile marks for the counter-clockwise direction: water fountain at Old Pomerado Rd/Bette Brendixen Park (mile 5.7); Garden Rd Neighborhood Park (mile 11.5) with a fountain and restroom; a gas station near the midpoint (about mile 24.8) that is open 24 hours; Lake Hodges Visitor Center (mile 28.4); and Paradise Produce Market (mile 35), which is about 0.1 mile off the course. The Paradise Produce location is the last convenient place to buy water and food on the counter-clockwise route, leaving about 16 miles with no refill point. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
