Scania Halve Marathon Zwolle
The event is held each second Saturday of June in Zwolle and includes multiple races such as the half marathon, a 4 English mile race, a Business Run and a Heroes Run. The main half marathon takes place in the evening and runs through the historic city centre; the field can include up to 10,000 athletes.
The day has a festival character with thousands of supporters along the route. Fanfares, bands and DJs perform along the course and the Grote Markt is the central reception and finishing area. After the race participants can stay in the city centre squares to recover and meet family or friends.
The half marathon course has a 2.6 kilometre approach to the centre followed by three laps of 6.2 km. The parcours is certified by Atletiekunie / World Athletics. The men’s best time on the course is 1:00:24 (2019) and the women’s best time is 1:07:01 (2026); a performance bonus is available for improving the course record.
Every finisher receives a medal. There is an option to have the medal engraved after the finish at Eekwal for a fee of €10; engraving includes name and time and is done with a laser. Wheelers, handbikers and buggies are not allowed on the course. Participants are divided in Athletics union classes and recreational classes. Changing rooms and showers are available at On Campus, Hogeschool Windesheim. Clothing can be deposited and retrieved at the Nieuwe Buitensociëteit, about 700 metres from the start via the Passerelle. The organisation does not accept responsibility for valuables.
