GSSM's 5K Race for Mental Health Awareness
GSSM's 5K Race for Mental Health Awareness is a community 5K held in Hartsville on February 28, 2026. The event is organized by FWD, a student organization that promotes healthy, balanced lifestyles and supports mental wellness. The race highlights the importance of mental health and directs proceeds to Night to Shine Hartsville, a prom experience for individuals with special needs ages 14 and up.
Registration is available online or in person at GSSM. Early bird registration ends January 31, 2026; regular registration runs from February 1 through race morning. Early registration fee for the 5K is $25 through January 31; the fee is $30 from February 1 through race day. Children 10 and under are free. Children 13 and under must be accompanied on the course by a registered adult.
The course starts and finishes at the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics, 401 Railroad Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550. The course is stroller and pet friendly; pets are not allowed inside the school building. Race shirts are guaranteed for registrations completed by January 31, 2026 and are available on a first-come, first-served basis afterward.
Awards include top three males and females overall, top racer with a stroller, top male and female in specified age groups, and recognition for largest GSSM and community teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
