About the race
The Groundhog race, organized by Indy Runners, takes place on Sunday, February 7, 2027, in Zionsville, Indiana, at Zionsville High School on Mulberry Street. The event includes in-person and virtual options and supports the Zionsville Food Pantry.

Registration opens on September 6, 2026. Registration for the 7-mile option closes February 4, 2027; registration for the 5-mile and virtual options closes February 7, 2027. All listed entries are donation-based with no set registration fee.
The in-person courses use the Rail Trail with an extension to the north. The 5-mile route is noted as about 0.2 miles long. For the 7-mile option, runners must maintain a 14:00 per mile pace; a course sentry at Mulberry Street (Mile 4.5) will divert participants who do not meet that pace onto the 5-mile return route to the high school.
Proceeds and suggested donations go to the Zionsville Food Pantry. The pantry will be on site to accept monetary donations and canned food items. Organizers reported raising over $4,000 for the pantry in the previous year and include a virtual option for those unable to attend in person.
