About the race
Great Springs Trail Race - Natural Bridge Caverns is a multi-distance trail event that begins inside the Natural Bridge Caverns and continues on surface trails through hills and wooded terrain. The site includes underground cavern access and above-ground activities that operate during regular park hours.
Race distances and formats include:
- 4 miles run
- 8 miles run and ruck
- 16 miles run
- Last Person Standing run and ruck formats
- Youth 1 mile
The Last Person Standing format uses repeated loops with hourly starts. Runners complete a 4.1667 mile loop and ruckers a 2.47 mile loop. Each lap must be finished in under 60 minutes to earn the right to start the next lap; missing the cutoff removes the participant from the event. Last Person Standing entrants receive a Discovery Tour pass, and finishing 24 laps upgrades the pass to a Hidden Wonders Tour.
Course support and rules: the event provides a full aid station at the finish/next lap arch and one on-course aid station during the 16 mile race. The event is cupless; participants must bring their own cup or bottle. Drop bag services are not provided on course, but space is available around the race hub. Pacers are not allowed.
Ruck division requirements specify mandatory weights by body weight, pre-race weigh ins, no trekking poles, and that weight must be carried on the back. The course is marked with caution tape, arrows, and reflectors to aid navigation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
