Great Springs Trail Race - Natural Bridge Caverns
This event takes place at Natural Bridge Caverns near San Antonio, New Braunfels, and San Marcos on September 26, 2026 and continues until the Last Person Standing competition concludes. Distances offered include:
- 4 miles run
- 8 miles run and ruck
- 16 miles run
- Last Person Standing run and ruck loops
- Youth 1 mile
The 4, 8 and 16 mile races begin with a short quarter mile section inside the caverns before emerging onto surface trails that cross rolling hills and wooded areas. Last Person Standing competitors do not start in the cave; they receive a Discovery Tour pass and finishing the 24th lap upgrades that pass to a Hidden Wonders Tour.
Last Person Standing runs use a 4.1667 mile loop and rucks use a 2.47 mile loop. Competitors must complete each loop in under 60 minutes to continue; missing the hourly cutoff results in elimination. The race hub serves as the start and finish for loops and functions as an all day and all night gathering area for crews and runners.
Course markings use orange caution tape, yellow arrows, and reflector equipped markers for night navigation. Timing is chip based with ankle chips. Ruck division rules set mandatory pack weights and require weigh in before the start and at the finish. The event follows Leave No Trace and is cupless; aid station and finish area food and hot night options are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
