Great Appalachian Valley Race: Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
The event takes place on July 18, 2026 at the Race Site, 304 Britton Rd, Shippensburg, PA 17257. It is held rain or shine and offers multiple distance options on an out-and-back rail trail that begins at Shippensburg Township Park.
The course follows a rail trail through rural Pennsylvania, described as flat and fast, with clearly marked turnarounds. Aid stations are provided every 2 miles starting at mile 2 and will offer water and Gatorade. Runners and walkers are encouraged to carry personal hydration and fuel. Participants are asked to dispose of waste in or near provided garbage cans or carry it to the next station. A 4 hour time limit applies to all events.
All registrants receive a race t-shirt, finisher medal and running socks. Finish line photos are free and results are available live online, by text, and by email. Food and drink are provided after the race. Packet pickup is available on the day before the event during a pre-race pickup window and on race morning; bib lookup is offered for those who do not know their bib number.
Early start provisions exist for the half marathon only; there are no early starts for the 5K and 10K and early starts are not eligible for awards.
