Event
The Great Appalachian Valley Race takes place on July 18, 2026 in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania at Shippensburg Township Park, 304 Britton Rd. The event includes these distances:
- Half Marathon
- 10K
- 5K
- Combo 5K and 10K
The race is held rain or shine and has a 4 hour time limit for all events. A non-binary registration option is offered and has its own overall and age-group awards. First-time half marathon finishers receive a commemorative plaque.
Course, logistics and amenities
The course follows the regional rail trail as an out-and-back route that is described as flat and fast with clearly marked turnarounds. Aid stations are provided every 2 miles, with water and Gatorade available; runners and walkers are encouraged to carry their own hydration and fuel. Participants receive a t-shirt, finisher medal and a pair of running socks. Additional event services include food and drink after the race, free finish-line photos, live/text/email results, and personalized bibs if registered at least three weeks before the event. Awards include top overall M/F/X and top three M/F/X in multiple age groups (15 & under; 16-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; 80+).
