The Great Appalachian Valley Race offers three distances and takes place at Shippensburg Township Park, 304 Britton Rd, Shippensburg, PA. Registration is not yet open.
- Half Marathon
- 10K
- 5K
The course follows a rail trail in an out and back format along rural, scenic terrain. The route is described as flat and fast; all turnarounds are clearly marked. Aid stations are placed every 2 miles, beginning at mile 2, and provide water and Gatorade. Runners and walkers are encouraged to carry personal hydration and fuel. Participants are asked to place garbage such as bottles and gel wrappers in or near the provided cans on the course or carry it to the next station.
Event amenities include a medal and lanyard, a T-shirt, running ankle socks, post-race food and drink, free finish-line photos, and live online/text/email results. There will not be a formal awards ceremony; awards may be picked up soon after finishing. Overall awards are given to the top finisher in each gender classification for the listed distances. Top three age-group awards are provided in categories spanning 15 & under through 80 plus, and apply across the Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and combo entries.
Pre-race packet pickup is available Friday at the start/finish area. Race morning pickup is also available; a self-lookup area is provided for bib numbers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
