Grande Prairie Triathlon
Now in its second year under this name and building on the former Eastlink Centre Triathlon, the event is presented as open to athletes aged 3 to 99+ and includes both kids and adult race categories.
The annual triathlon takes place on July 12, 2026 and consists of swimming, biking and running. The event is sanctioned by Triathlon Alberta; all athletes must hold a valid Triathlon Alberta membership to participate.
Registration includes an early bird period ending May 15. Published fees include Try-a-Tri adult at $75 early bird / $80 regular plus a $30 Triathlon AB day membership fee; Sprint adult $90 / $100 plus $30; Team Sprint $120 / $135 per team plus $15 per person. Kids of Steel registration is listed as $0 thanks to sponsor support, with a $10 Triathlon AB day membership fee.
Adult race distances
- Try-a-Tri (14+) : swim 300 m, bike 10 km, run 3 km
- Sprint (16+) : swim 750 m, bike 20 km, run 5 km
- Team Sprint (16+, teams of 2 or 3) : swim 750 m, bike 20 km, run 5 km
The route starts with swimming in the Olympic pool at the Eastlink Centre using 25 m lengths. The bike course follows Knowledge Way, down 68 Avenue, loops at Poplar Drive and returns to the Eastlink Centre. The run uses the trail system and finishes at the north end of Knowledge Way. For participant and commuter safety, 68 Avenue will be closed from Poplar Drive to Knowledge Way during the triathlon.
Kids of Steel distances
- 5 Years & Under : swim 25 m, bike 1 km, run 0.5 km
- 6-7 Years : swim 50 m, bike 1.5 km, run 0.5 km
- 8-9 Years : swim 100 m, bike 3 km, run 1 km
- 10-11 Years : swim 200 m, bike 5 km, run 2 km
- 12-13 Years : swim 300 m, bike 10 km, run 3 km
For the 5 & Under category, a parent may enter the 25 m pool to support their child at no charge. Lifeguards will be in the pool for other Kids of Steel categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
