Grand Canyon Trail Half Marathon
The Grand Canyon Trail Half Marathon is a trail race of 13.4 Miles held near Grand Canyon Village in Tusayan, Arizona. The course runs through Kaibab National Forest on the Coconino Plateau near the Grand Canyon South Rim. The route begins with about a half mile on sidewalk, then continues for roughly 11.5 miles on forest jeep roads with a mix of rugged rocky sections, soft dirt, and hard-packed dirt. The final mile is a rolling section on the paved Arizona Trail.
The event is produced by experienced local runners and is part of a multi-distance race weekend. Registrants for the half marathon receive a souvenir race shirt and all finishers receive a commemorative medallion. The listed registration fee for the half marathon is $80. The course is at elevation, with early morning temperatures most likely in the 30s and 40s and daytime highs often in the 60s to 70s, though conditions at about 7,000 feet can vary. The terrain and hills make the course slower than comparable road races; leading half marathon times are typically about 10 minutes slower than on road courses. The course is not suitable for chair athletes, and pets are not permitted with participants on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
