Grand Canyon of the South Ultras
The Grand Canyon of the South Ultras is an inaugural trail running event held on September 12, 2026, at Breaks Interstate Park in Breaks, VA. The event is organized by Southwest Virginia Running and takes place entirely on the Virginia side of the park.
The event features multiple distances:
- 50K
- Double 10K (20K)
- Morning 10K
- Sunset 10K
Courses run on the park's trail network and include canyon overlooks, ridgeline sections, rocky and technical singletrack, forested hollows, and mountain climbs. The 50K is presented as the signature distance and is described as a tour of the trail system with significant elevation gain and loss and multiple scenic overlooks. The Double 10K combines the Morning 10K and the Sunset 10K so participants complete both 10K courses in one day and receive official results and recognition as Double 10K finishers.
The event is set within a destination park that offers lodging, camping, a seasonal water park, a mountain lake, fishing, paddle rentals, playgrounds, picnic areas, and hiking trails for non-runners. Registered runners are offered a 10% lodging discount at Breaks Interstate Park. Aid stations are described as fully stocked on the 50K course. Organizer race policies cover registration, transfers, deferrals, refunds, conduct, pacers, crews, minors, and race-day procedures. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
