Glow in the Garden 5k
The event is a nighttime 5k running and walking event that follows the Rock River Recreation Path and passes Nicholas Conservatory and Sinnissippi Gardens. The course starts just south of Nicholas Conservatory, runs north along the river path into Loves Park via Illinois Street, Snow Avenue, Arlington and Ransom, then returns south to the Conservatory. Most areas will be lit with black lights, laser lights and uplights; participants who feel uncertain are advised to bring a flashlight or headlamp.
Registration schedules and fees are specified: registration opens April 1, 2026; online early registration is $35 through August 16; from August 17 through September 17 the online fee is $45; in-person registration is available at Nicholas Conservatory on September 17 and at the race start on September 18 for $45. Ages 12 and under register for $25. Packet pick-up is available September 17 at Nicholas Conservatory and also Friday evening at the race start.
5k registration includes a T-shirt, an admission ticket to Nicholas Conservatory, and a finisher medal. The inside gardens of the Conservatory will be closed during the event. The race is chip-timed. Strollers and dogs are not permitted due to path width and crowding. A free trolley shuttle will operate along the riverfront with donations appreciated. Awards and post-race activities include an awards presentation at the start/finish, food trucks, and wishing lanterns for $5 each; lanterns purchased with registration will be placed in race packets.
