Glo Wild Mile
The Glo Wild Mile is a running and walking event held at the Fort Wayne Zoo in Indiana. Participants follow a 1-mile course through the zoo grounds, which are decorated with a variety of large lantern displays representing different colors and shapes. The event is untimed, but it maintains a competitive element through its wave structure.
The event is organized into several color-coded waves based on participant pace:
- Glo Wild Mile - Blue: 5-8 minute pace.
- Glo Wild Mile - Green: 7-9 minute pace.
- Glo Wild Mile - Orange: 9-11 minute pace.
- Glo Wild Mile - Purple: 9-11 minute pace.
- Glo Wild Mile - Red: 11-14 minute pace.
- Glo Wild Mile - Yellow: Designated for walkers.
- Glo Wild Mile - Rainbow: Designated for walkers.
- Glo Wild Mile - White: Designated for walkers.
All waves utilize the same route. While individual times are not recorded, physical awards are provided based on finishing position within each wave. The first 10 finishers receive Cheetah Medals, and the following 10 receive Gazelle Medals.
Due to the narrow width of the zoo pathways, strollers are not permitted on the course during the race. Participants may use strollers after the official race waves conclude. For the safety of the resident animals, pets and dogs are prohibited, though service animals are allowed if checked in at guest services. Race bibs include a coupon for use at various food and drink vendors inside the zoo, such as the Peacock Café and Ray's Grill.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Fort Wayne Zoo. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
