Glacier Half Marathon

The Glacier Half Marathon is a point-to-point road race occurring on the eastern border of Glacier National Park in Montana. The course is conducted entirely on paved surfaces, with the exception of minor sections on grass. Runners navigate a high-elevation route that starts at an altitude above 5,000 feet, providing views of the surrounding mountains and the prairies of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.

The course begins approximately 1.3 miles east of Kiowa and follows a specific elevation profile. Participants face a steady incline for the first five miles, including a climb of nearly 900 feet up Looking Glass Hill. After reaching the summit, the route becomes predominantly downhill between miles 5 and 10, passing by Two Medicine Lake and Lower Two Medicine Lake. The final segment contains a series of smaller hills leading to the finish line located on the front lawn of the historic Glacier Park Lodge.

Available Distances:

  • Half Marathon (21.0975 km)

The event follows a zero-waste, cup-free policy. Runners must carry their own hydration systems or reusable cups to use at the five aid stations provided along the course. These stations offer water, electrolyte drinks, and various snacks. A strict four-hour time limit is enforced for all participants, which accommodates a pace of approximately 18.5 minutes per mile. Due to the point-to-point nature of the race, shuttles are used to transport participants from the designated parking area in Browning to the start line and back from the finish line.
