The Girls on the Run Northwest Illinois Rockford 5K is an end of season, celebratory event held on May 21, 2027, at Mercyhealth Sportscore One in Rockford, IL. The event centers on a 5K course of 3.1 miles and gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment as they complete the season goal.
Girls on the Run participants receive a finisher medal for completing the program and the 5K. Family members, friends, and community participants may join the 5K but must register separately; registered adult 5K Buddies and community participants receive a commemorative decorated race bib rather than the finisher medal. Girls who are already registered in the GOTR program do not need to register again for the 5K.
The event includes additional activities such as decoration stations, photo booths, bingo, and merchandise for sale. The course is accessible for people with disabilities and designated parking is available. Safety measures include mandatory race bibs for every participant, course monitoring with head counts, a council safety plan, and trained staff and volunteers who respond to incidents. Volunteers support many roles including set up and clean up, packet pick up, course marshals, running buddies, water and first aid stations, lead bike, and finish line refreshments; volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check.
