Event overview

Gil's Galavant is a backyard ultra held on a working cattle property of approximately 3,000 acres near Wallumbilla, Qld. The event is scheduled for Saturday 11 April 2026. Entries open 27 July 2025 and the field is limited to a maximum of 200 participants. Regular entry costs $160; the first 50 regular entrants receive a free shirt. Entrants aged 15 and under enter for free but must be accompanied by an adult and do not receive a shirt. The event does not use bibs or electronic tracking. The site offers outback camping. The page notes March average temperatures of 29.4°C by day and 19.9°C at night.

Format and rules

Runners complete repeated loops of 6.71 km, starting a new loop every hour. A cattle bell signals the start of each loop and whistle warnings sound at 3, 2, and 1 minute before the bell. All participants must begin each loop exactly on the bell; late starts are not permitted. A runner is eliminated if they fail to return to the corral within the hour, are not in the starting corral when the whistle blows, or stop mid-loop and do not continue. The event continues until two runners remain; the second-to-last person to stop is recorded as the Assist and the final person to complete a loop within the hour is the Last One Standing.
