About the race
The Galena River Fall event on October 31, 2026, offers in-person and virtual race options along the Galena River Trail in Galena, Illinois (91 Bouthillier). The course for the half marathon is described as fast and flat and uses paved trail sections.

The half marathon follows an out and back routing: runners begin on the south end of the trail, turn at the 5.50 mile marker, return toward the start for the equivalent of 11 miles, then proceed north for a short out and back to complete 13.10 miles. The 8K is an out and back with a turnaround at 2.50 miles.
Race logistics include packet pickup below the Highway 20 bridge in the Train Depot parking area on Friday, October 30 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday morning from 7:00 am to 7:45 am; friends may pick up for another participant. Gear check is available at the packet pickup table; gear bags should be labeled. Hydration and fuel stations with water, an electrolyte beverage, and GU are located at miles 2, 3.5, 9, 11, and 12.
Medals and shirts are available but limited; shirts are available while size quantities last and can be collected at packet pickup or on race day. Because of Galena Halloween festivities the course will close at 11:00 AM; walkers are not permitted in the half marathon and runners must finish before the course closes.
