Furry Friends 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
Furry Friends is a fundraiser event organized by Save-A-Pet that takes place on June 27, 2026 at Old School Forest Preserve, Shelter C, in Libertyville, Illinois. Proceeds from the event benefit Save-A-Pet, a 501(c)(3) no-kill rescue and adoption center serving Lake County, IL.
The event offers the following distances:
- 5K Timed run with awards and finisher recognition
- 1 Mile 6-Legged Fun Run/Walk Walk or run with a canine companion, not timed
Race amenities and awards are described for participants. 5K participants receive a backpack with race materials, a race t-shirt, and a participation medal. Overall male and female winners receive trophies and the top three finishers in each age category receive trophies. All 6-Legged Fun Run/Walk human participants receive a backpack and a race t-shirt. Age award categories range from 14 and under through 70 and over.
Pre-race packet pickup is available at the Save-A-Pet Adoption Center in Grayslake. A guaranteed race-day t-shirt requires registration by May 31. Virtual options are offered for both the 5K and the 1 mile, and virtual participants may choose packet shipping. The event is planned to proceed rain or shine, with the possibility of cancellation for severe weather; in that case participants may be offered a partial refund or the option to donate the refund amount to Save-A-Pet.
