Furry Friends 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk : June 27, 2026
The event at Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville, IL combines a timed 5K run with a 6-Legged 1-mile fun run/walk for people and their dogs. Both live and virtual participation options are offered, and virtual participants may request packet shipping.

Participants in the live event receive a backpack with race materials and a race t-shirt; 5K finishers also receive a participation medal. Overall male and female first-place finishers receive trophies, and trophies are awarded to the top three finishers in each age group. Pre-race packet pickup is available the day before at the Save-A-Pet Adoption Center, with additional packet pickup and registration at the race site on race morning.
All proceeds benefit Save-A-Pet, a 501(c)(3) no-kill cat and dog rescue and adoption center in Lake County, Illinois. Save-A-Pet describes its work as providing long-term care and adoption services; the organization reports operating for more than 50 years and facilitating over 67,000 adoptions.
