Event overview

The Frosty Mountain Ultra is a trail race held in Manning Provincial Park at the Lightning Lake Day Use area. The event date is Saturday, September 12, 2026. The course passes alpine meadows and provides 360-degree views. The highest point on the route is near the summit area of Frosty Mountain, listed at 7900 feet (2408 meters), described as the highest peak in Manning Park.

Courses and logistics

Distances offered:

  • 13 km : elevation gain 185 m
  • 27 km : elevation gain 1300 m
  • 50 km : elevation gain 2400 m

The 50 km and 27 km routes start at the Lightning Lake parking area and follow trails including Little Muddy Trail, Similkameen Trail and Windy Joe Trail, with an ascent toward Frosty Mountain followed by a descent to Tom’s Bench on the south side of Lightning Lake. The 27 km course turns toward the finish at Tom’s Bench. The 50 km course continues around Lightning Lake, climbs Skyline Trail and returns via Strawberry Flats. The 13 km course goes around Lightning Lake and along Flash Lake.

Aid stations and mandatory gear

Aid stations are limited due to the remote location and will offer water, pop, energy gels and bars, candy, chips and fresh fruit. Key aid station locations include Windy Joe, Frosty Camp, Tom’s Bench, Skyline Junction and Strawberry Flats. Mandatory gear for the 27 km and 50 km races includes a working headlamp, emergency survival blanket, whistle, minimum 400 calories of emergency food, waterproof jacket, insulating long-sleeve layer and gloves. Mandatory gear checks are required before package pickup or check-in.

Registration and prizes

Registration opened January 2, 2025. Early bird fees (until April 15, 2025) were CAD$85 for 13 km, CAD$130 for 27 km, and CAD$155 for 50 km; regular fees are CAD$95, CAD$145 and CAD$175 respectively. Online registration closed September 8, 2026 and there are no race-day registrations. Top male and female finishers in each distance receive a CAD$50 gift card and all finishers receive a finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
