5K for Fragile X
The 13th Annual 5K for Fragile X takes place at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas. This event serves the Southern California Fragile X community by raising awareness for Fragile X syndrome (FXS), an inherited intellectual disability and common genetic cause of Autism. The gathering provides a space for families and individuals affected by the condition to connect in a judgment-free environment.
Participants may choose to complete the course in several ways:
- 5K Run/Walk: A 3.1-mile course through the regional park.
The event is designed to be family friendly and accommodates various modes of movement including walking, running, biking, scooting, or strolling. Participants who register are eligible to receive a t-shirt and additional items on the morning of the event. Beyond the physical race, a virtual participation option is available for those who cannot attend in person but wish to support the cause.
A community gathering follows the activity, featuring food and social opportunities for families and friends. The organization also offers the ability to recognize specific participants with inspirational signs placed along the course. Financial contributions support public awareness initiatives, family forums, and scientific research into treatments for brain disorders.
