Forest Frolic 2026
Forest Frolic is an annual trail running event organized by the Finger Lakes Runners Club in Kennedy State Forest near Virgil, NY. Two distances are offered:
- 15K (9 miles) - figure 8 course with about 1,700 feet of climb.
- 7K (4.1 miles) - shorter scenic loop with about 700 feet of climb.
Courses run over a mix of surfaces: roughly 50% single-track trail, 30% logging roads, and 20% dirt roads. Both routes include a stream crossing and an ascent to a rock pile associated with the Monster Marathon. Trails are marked with painted blazes, with double blazes at turns, and are described as clear of brambles.
Both distances start and finish at the Hauck Hill campsite. Primitive camping is available near the start/finish the day before at no charge; participants are advised to bring water. Parking is restricted to the right side of Hauck Hill Road as it approaches the campsite.
Online registration is required, limited to the first 175 registrants, and has an entry fee of $20 with a $5 member discount and free entry for those 18 and under. Awards are given to overall male, female, and nonbinary winners and to top male and female runners across standard age groups. The event is part of the FLRC Trail Circuit and is insured by the Road Runners Club of America. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
