Footloose Freedom Mile
The Footloose Freedom Mile is a one-mile road race held in Mammoth Lakes, California, on July 4. This community event takes place shortly before the local Independence Day parade. The course is entirely closed to bicycles and motor vehicles, providing a clear path for participants.
The route begins at the corner of Minaret and Old Mammoth Road and concludes at Footloose Sports, located at the intersection of Old Mammoth Road and Main Street. Registration and bib pick-up are handled at Mammoth Creek Park. Although the event does not use official individual timing chips, a race clock is available at the finish line for participants to check their own times.
The race is open to participants of all ages and abilities. Festive Independence Day clothing is encouraged for those taking part. Due to safety considerations regarding leashes, dogs are not permitted on the course. Proceeds from the event support local athletic programs, including elite runners and high school cross-country teams.
