Flying Acorn Trail Run
The event takes place in Squirrel Hills Trail Park near Minnedosa, MB, on community trails located on Treaty 2 Anishinaabe territory and on the homelands of the Red River Métis. Distances offered include:
- Half Marathon (21.1k)
- 10K
- 5K
The 5K course is about 5.4 km with approximately 90 m of elevation and follows the Perimeter Loop, made up of the Cenovus Energy Unity Trail and Les Métis Way. The 10K is about 10.6 km with roughly 190 m of elevation gain. Its first half is mostly grass double track with a few single track connectors, while the second half is single track with a gradual 2 km uphill, a fast 2 km downhill, then a 1 km climb back to the trailhead. The Half Marathon consists of completing the 10K route twice for an approximate total elevation gain of 380 m.
There are two aid stations on the 10K route, providing four opportunities to resupply; 5K runners will encounter an aid station near the halfway point. This is a cupless event so participants should bring their own water bottle. First aid is available at the start/finish and on call in the park. Over the ear headphones are not permitted; one earbud is allowed.
Race perks include a Headsweats race shirt for all runners, a custom finisher medal for every participant, awards for the top three male and female finishers, aid stations and a Post Race Snack Shack sponsored by Heritage Co-op, post race pizza sponsored by Pizza Cabin, and free professional on course photos available after the event. Members of the Manitoba Association of Trail Runners earn UT of MB points. Registration closes May 7 at 11:59 PM CT. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
