Flying Acorn Trail Run at Squirrel Hills Trail Park
The event takes place on the community trails of Squirrel Hills Trail Park in Minnedosa, MB. These trails lie on Treaty 2 Anishinaabe territory and are also part of the homelands of the Red River Métis.
Distances offered:
- Half Marathon (21.1k)
- 10K
- 5K
Trails combine decades old double track and newly built single track, with sections of grass double track and dirt single track. The 5k route is about 5.4k with roughly 90 m of elevation, following the Perimeter Loop. The 10k is about 10.6k with ~190 m of elevation gain, featuring a gradual 2k uphill, a fast 2k downhill and a 1k climb back to the trailhead. The Half Marathon is two laps of the 10k for an approximate 380 m gain.
Two aid stations on the 10k route provide water, electrolytes and snacks, giving runners up to four opportunities to access aid; 5k runners have an aid station near halfway. This is a cupless event so participants should bring their own water bottle. First aid is available at the start/finish and on call in the park. Over ear headphones are not permitted; a single earbud is allowed.
All participants receive a custom race shirt and finisher medal. Awards are given to the top three in male and female categories. A post race pizza offering is provided and members of MATR earn UT of MB points. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
