Flinders Island Running Festival
The Flinders Island Running Festival is scheduled for 4th to 6th of September on Flinders Island, centred on Whitemark and the Flinders Island Golf Club. The event presents a set of trail and community runs that use island tracks, local roads and coastal trails and aims to involve the local community.
Distances include:
- Glow Run about 3 km
- 42 km trail marathon
- 25 km trail run or walk
- 11 km run
- 4 km Trousers Point recovery run
The Glow Run is based at the Flinders Island Golf Club and follows an illuminated loop around the Golf Club, Whitemark and the Bluff track. Organisers recommend participants carry a head torch. The 42 km trail marathon starts and finishes at the Golf Club and traverses the Cattle Track, the School area, the road to Lady Barron, the Haulands Trail, Palana Road and the Bluff Track. On-course navigation will use Avenza Maps and a GeoPDF course map is provided; pink signage will mark major junctions.
The 25 km event starts near the intersection of Thule Road and Manns Road, includes the Haulands Trail and returns via Palana Road and the Bluff Track. Teams are permitted in some events with specified changeover rules and walkers are welcome in the 25 km event. The 11 km event starts at Memana Road and allows team entries with restricted changeover sections.
The Sunday Trousers Point recovery run is untimed and follows a coastal trail with sand dunes and lichen covered rocks; BBQ facilities are available after the run. Photographers will attend and the finish line will use a video camera for finishing times. Online registrations are open until 5th June 2026. All registrants receive a ten dollar Island Voucher valid for food and non alcoholic drinks from Friday 4th September to Sunday 6th September.
