Event Overview
The First Responders "Bring in the Backup" Triathlon is a patriotic themed multi-sport event. It is designed to represent military branches, firefighters, nurses, EMS, dispatchers, corrections officers, and law enforcement. First Responder participants start the race first, with all other participants following as 'backup' support. Participation is not limited to First Responders.
Events and Distances
Multiple events are offered:
- Sprint Triathlon: 150m swim, 10.4 mile bike, 5k run.
- Duathlon: 1.5 mile run, 10.4 mile bike, 5k run.
- Aquabike: 250m swim, 10.4 mile bike.
- Relay Sprint Triathlon: A team option for 2-3 people.
Course Details
The swim takes place at the Northwood Swimming Pool in Swensrud Park. The bike course uses a public highway and features rolling hills for most of its distance. The 5k run course is mostly flat with one gradual hill.
Event Details
The event takes place in Northwood, Iowa. Proceeds are donated to the Worth County Sheriff's Office, the Northwood Fire and Rescue Department, and a Future First Responders Scholarship for Northwood-Kensett students. The event honors two First Responder families. An entry fee provides race entry, a t-shirt for registrations by a specified date, a race medal, event timing, some prizes, and refreshments.
