Overview
The First Responders "Bring in the Backup" Triathlon takes place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Northwood, Iowa at Swensrud Park and the Northwood Swimming Pool. The event recognizes branches of the military, firefighters, nurses, EMS, dispatchers, corrections, and law enforcement. First responders lead off the race, followed by other participants as "backup." The event offers individual and relay options and includes triathlon, aquabike, and duathlon competitions.
Courses and distances
- Sprint Triathlon: 150 m swim, 10.4 mile bike, 5k run.
- Aquabike: 250 m swim, 10.4 mile bike.
- Duathlon: 1.5 mile run, 10.4 mile bike, 5k run.
The swim portion is held at the Northwood Pool. The bike course uses a public highway and has rolling hills for much of the route. The 5k run is mostly flat with one gradual hill.
Entries, fees, and proceeds
Entry options include individual and 2-3 person relay teams for the triathlon; duathlon and aquabike are individual events. Listed entry fees are $55 for the triathlon, $90 for the relay, $55 for aquabike, and $55 for the duathlon. Registered athletes receive a race t-shirt (guaranteed for registrations on or before July 16, 2026), a race medal, event timing, some prizes, and refreshments. Proceeds will be donated to the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Northwood Fire and Rescue Department, and a Future First Responders Scholarship for Northwood-Kensett students.
