Escape the Zom-Bites 5K
The Escape the Zom-Bites 5K is a themed running event held in Edinburg, Texas. Participants take part in a survival challenge where each runner begins the race with three lives. The course features designated Zombie Zones where actors attempt to tag participants. If a runner is tagged within these zones, they must stop to have one of their lives marked off on their race bib.
The event categorizes finishers based on the number of lives they have remaining at the end of the course. Those with three lives are classified as Survivors, those with one or any remaining are Escapees, and those who lose all three lives are classified as Infected. All participants who cross the finish line receive a custom race medal.
The available distances and categories include:
- 5K (3.1 Miles)
- 5K (Medal and Bib option)
Proceeds from the event are intended to assist with medical expenses for a one-year-old deaf boxer named Kidd. The funds help cover the costs of a major hip surgery and subsequent recovery process at a specialized veterinary hospital. The race serves as a community effort to support the animal's journey toward a pain-free life following a diagnosis of severe hip dysplasia.
The event takes place at 714 S. Raul Longoria. Registration remains open until the morning of the race, with different fee tiers based on the selected participation package. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
