Escalante Canyons Marathon
The Escalante Canyons Marathon is an annual road race held on October 10, 2026. The 2026 event is the 14th running and is organized by local volunteers to raise funds for local schools and community organizations.
Distances offered:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 5K Fun Run
The full marathon and the half marathon courses are USA Track & Field certified. The marathon follows Utah's Scenic Highway 12, beginning in Boulder, Utah, and finishing in Escalante. The route passes canyons lined with sandstone cliffs, the Hog's Back ridge, and Calf Creek Canyons, crosses the Escalante River, and ascends through red rock terrain to limestone slickrock hills and washes. Highway 12 has been called one of the world's most beautiful roadways.
The half marathon follows the final half of the marathon course. The first three miles of that segment are an uphill section through slickrock vistas, followed by a long downhill to the finish through sagebrush rangelands bounded by cliff formations associated with the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
A gallery of course and landscape images is available for reference. The event materials describe scenic vistas, varied topography, and an emphasis on local community support. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
