Event Overview
The EmpoweRun / Walk 5K is a 5 km event held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville, Illinois. The event is the 14th annual edition and is organized as a fundraising event for A Safe Place, supporting survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking.
Event Details
The course is CARA and USATF certified (certification number IL16016NM). The event is chip-timed, with age group results and gun time used to determine the overall winners. Participants may register as individuals or as part of a fundraising team.
Registration pricing changes over time, with lower rates available through February 28, 2026. A T-shirt is included with registration, but participants registering after March 13 may not receive their preferred size, and late April registrants may not receive a shirt at all.
Awards are given for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall men and women, as well as for 1st and 2nd place in standard age groups ranging from 10 and under to 70 and over.
Policies and Logistics
On-site registration opens at 7:30 AM. An opening ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 AM. The race concludes with a closing ceremony and awards. All participants must finish by 10:15 AM.
Strollers and baby joggers are permitted but must start at the back of the starting area. Only service animals are allowed; pets, bicycles, and other wheeled vehicles are prohibited.
