Event overview
The Empower Run 5k is a chip-timed 5-kilometer race held in May at Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville, IL. The event is organized by A Safe Place as a fundraising run/walk to support survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking and to fund the organization’s programs and community education. The course is CARA certified and carries USATF certification number IL16016NM. J3 Timing provides chip timing, and gun time is used for overall winners.
Race details and policies

Awards are given for 1st–3rd overall men and women, plus age-group awards (10 and under; 11–19; 20–29; 30–39; 40–49; 50–59; 60–69; 70 & over). T-shirt size is guaranteed for registrations made before the event cutoff; registrations after March 15 may not receive the exact size requested. Parking is provided in the two lots closest to the start and will be marked on race day. Packet pickup details will be announced closer to the event and communicated by email.
Strollers and baby joggers must start at the back, remain on the right side of the course, and have functioning brakes; children must be securely buckled. Only service animals are permitted. Bicycles and other wheeled vehicles are prohibited. The event is rain or shine; organizers will follow National Weather Service guidance and may delay or cancel for severe conditions. No refunds are issued; proceeds support A Safe Place programs and services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
