Elephant Rock Trail Run
The Elephant Rock Trail Run is a set of trail races held in Mueller Park above Bountiful, Utah. The 2026 event is the ninth edition and features multiple distances run primarily on single track and forest roads around Holbrook Canyon, The Great Western, Sessions Mountains, Mill Creek, Kenney Creek, North Canyon, Rudy’s Flat, and Elephant Rock.
Distances
- 50K point to point course
- 26.8 Miler (full marathon equivalent)
- 13.8 Miler (long half-marathon)
- 7 Miler out and back to Elephant Rock
The 50K course includes about 8,600 feet of total climb, with roughly 6,084 feet in the first 15.5 miles. Organizers note the 50K may use an alternate course depending on weather and trail conditions; the alternate removes the Mill Creek to Kenney Creek connector and uses an out-and-back section totaling 15.5 miles before finishing on the 16.3 mile Mueller Park loop. The Mueller Park half-marathon loop has about 2,516 +/- feet of elevation change.
Trail surfaces are reported as approximately 80% dirt single track, 19% dirt road, and 1% paved at the start/finish. The 50K first section has only two limited aid stations; participants must carry sufficient water for long climbs. Trails are marked, and some sections are unmanaged by the Forest Service and can be overgrown or obstructed after harsh winters or heavy spring growth.
The event is sanctioned by USA Track & Field. The organizer policy states there are no standard refunds or transfers; a one-year deferment may be allowed with documented medical reason submitted one month before race day. If the event is canceled by authorities, a one-year moratorium for entries may be applied.
Volunteer roles are available; full shifts earn complimentary entry for the following year and half shifts receive a 50 percent credit, with rules that volunteering and racing cannot occur in the same year. All finishers receive a handcrafted medal; top male and female of each distance receive a special award. There are no age group awards and no guaranteed second or third place prizes; awards distributed at the event are provided while supplies last and may be mailed afterward.
