Effingham County Fair 5K
The event on August 2, 2026, at 722 E Cumberland Rd, Altamont, Illinois, includes a 5K Run Walk and a 1 Mile Fun Run held on the fairgrounds and nearby park areas.

The 5K course begins and finishes on the horse track in front of the grandstands. Runners complete most of the track, exit via the south entrance road, run toward Gilbert Park and the NEW ACHS/AGS Track for two loops, pass a water station after about 1.15 miles, then return to the fairgrounds and finish on the track. Music is present at the start and finish areas. Professional chip timing by Kinetic Timing will be used.
Registration opens April 14 and closes July 26. Standard registration fees listed are $25 for the 5K and $20 for the 1 Mile. Race morning registrations are available with payment by exact change or check; race morning fees are $26 for the 5K and $18 for the 1 Mile. Registering before July 21 guarantees a race shirt; shirts are not available on race morning.
Awards are given to the top three male and top three female finishers. The running events are scheduled at the start of the fair week, which includes fair features such as the Pork Producers Stand, talent show, demo derby, fair queen pageant, horse races and tractor pull.
