Event Overview
The Eagle in the Sun Triathlon is an El Paso multisport event entering its 16th year. The event includes several in-person formats, with both individual and team options. It is a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event, requiring all athletes to be USAT members.
Events and Distances
The event offers several distinct formats:
- Individual Sprint: A 400m swim, 12-mile bike, and 3-mile run.
- Aquabike: A 400m swim followed by a 12-mile bike.
- Bike-Run: A 12-mile bike leg and a 3-mile run.
- 5k Run/Walk: A standalone 3-mile run or walk.
- Relay: Teams of 2 or 3 persons can complete the full triathlon (swim-bike-run).
Course Details
The race begins with a 400-meter swim in a 50-meter pool. The cycling segment is a mostly flat 12-mile out-and-back route on the Border Highway. The running segment is a 5K (3-mile) course on the Playa Drain Trail.
Participant Information
Awards are given for top overall male and female finishers, as well as for age groups and Clydesdale/Athena weight categories. Packet pickup is available on the two days before the race, requiring a photo ID and USAT membership card. There is no packet pickup or registration on race day. All registered athletes receive a race packet, and all finishers receive a medal.
The first 600 registered participants are guaranteed a moisture-wicking race shirt, athlete bag, water bottle, and swim cap. All participants receive post-race snacks and drinks, and have access to a race day Expo. The event uses chip timing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
