Event

The Dude Peak Derby is a trail race in Salt Lake City held on June 20, 2026. The course starts and finishes at Memory Grove Park. Distance is 16 miles with about 4,000 feet of vertical gain. Prize money is offered for the top three finishers in each gender category: women $125 / $100 / $75 and men $100 / $75 / $50.

Course and rules

The route climbs from Memory Grove Park into City Creek Canyon, follows the Bonneville Shoreline Trail (BST) toward Ensign Peak, and uses singletrack and service roads to reach a ridgeline near Dude Peak. The turnaround is located before the U.S. Forest Service boundary, so runners will not summit the official peak. Runners retrace much of the route back to Memory Grove Park. The course will be marked at major junctions; participants are advised to download the route to a watch or phone if unfamiliar with the area.

This is a self-supported, cupless event. A minimal water cache will be available near the tower road; runners must carry their own hydration and nutrition and pack out trash.

Logistics

Entry fees (2026): $50 Jan 1–Apr 30, $60 May 1–May 31, $70 Jun 1–Jun 20. Parking guidance advises using East Capitol Blvd and walking to the start rather than parking in nearby neighborhoods. There is a 7-hour total race cutoff to meet park requirements. Bib pickup is available the day before at Sugar House Park and on race morning. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
