Event overview
The Dovedale Dash is a long-running cross country race first held in 1953. It normally attracts about 1,200 to 1,400 entrants. The event is organised on a voluntary basis by local people and the surplus proceeds support local charitable causes and the upkeep of Thorpe Village Hall.
Courses and route
- 4 3/4 mile main cross country race
- 1 1/4 mile children's Mini Dash (U12 and U9 categories)
The main course runs mainly along field paths and open ground in the valleys of the rivers Dove and Manifold. A notable feature of the route is the crossing at the Stepping Stones on the River Dove. The Mini Dash runs around the foot of Thorpe Cloud, down to the River Dove and returns via Lin Dale; parents or guardians may accompany children.
Location and logistics
The event is based at Thorpe near Ashbourne in the south of the Derbyshire Peak District. Parking is provided on Thorpe pastures with no parking charge. Entrants register on the day. The organisers sometimes limit entries on the day if ground conditions make parking or access unsafe. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
