defib.run
defib.run is a navigational running event based at Chinley Community Centre. Participants visit six red phone boxes around Chinley, each of which houses a defibrillator. The event helps fund the upkeep and replacement of those devices.
Competitors start and finish at the Community Centre and follow an unmarked course, visiting the six defibrillator locations in any order. A paper map is provided and there are stamps in each phone box to prove visits.
The route is approximately 10+ km (6+ miles). Entry is restricted to people aged 16 or older and the listed entry fee is £10 plus a £1 charge. The six phone boxes were adopted from BT and fitted with defibrillators in 2016 at a cost of £1500 each; the event is being run because these units are nearing the end of their usable life and require replacement funding.
The race forms part of Chinley Fête, which takes place in the village on the same day. Parking in the village is limited; the Community Centre is opposite the station, which has direct trains from Manchester Piccadilly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
