Defiance 50K
The Defiance event offers multiple trail distances that loop through Point Defiance Park and return to the Owen Beach start/finish area. The course follows approximately a 9.75 mile (15.7 km) loop through old growth forest and offers panoramic views of Puget Sound. Runners pass beneath large cedars and firs and encounter single track trail for most of the route.
Each distance completes a set number of loops of the same course:
- 50K: three loops
- 30K: two loops
- 15K: one loop
- 50K relay: three person team, one loop per member
Each loop includes an aid station at the start/finish and an additional aid station near Fort Nisqually about 5.3 miles into the loop. Water, electrolyte drinks, food and fixed bathrooms are provided at water stations. Medical personnel are stationed at the start/finish area. Elevation change per loop is 1,306 feet. The course is mostly single track and is typically dry in mid October; most sections are runnable but include hills.
Registration for the event includes a finisher medal and a tech shirt if ordered by the organizer’s shirt cutoff date. Packet pickup and gear check are provided; gear check closes shortly before the race start. A general time limit applies and the course enforces loop cutoffs.
