Defiance 50K, 30K, 15K and 3 person 50K Relay
The event is staged on a roughly 9.75 mile / 15.7 km loop through Point Defiance Park. The loop passes Owen Beach each circuit and travels through old growth forest with 500 year old cedars and firs and panoramic views of Puget Sound. The course is mostly single track, typically dry in mid October, and is described as 95% run able.
Each loop has about 1,306 feet of elevation gain and loss. Aid is available at the Start/Finish area and at a Fort Nisqually station approximately 5.3 miles into the loop. Water, electrolyte drinks, food, and fixed restrooms are provided at water stations; runners are advised to carry one bottle of water. Medical personnel are stationed at the Start/Finish area.
Registration for each entry includes a commemorative finisher medal and a tech shirt; a shirt size guarantee is offered if ordered by the stated cutoff. Race swag is distributed at packet pickup or at the finish and cannot be mailed after the event. Packet pickup includes a bib with a timing chip and a gear check tear tag. Gear check is available on race day and items are claimed after finishing using the bib number; participants are advised not to place valuables in checked bags.
A portion of event proceeds supports the Humane Society of Tacoma and Pierce County. Awards include overall male and female placements and age group ribbons for the top five finishers in standard age categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
