Defiance 50K
The Defiance event features trail races in Point Defiance Park on a roughly 9.75 mile (15.7 km) loop through old growth forest. The course runs past 500-year-old cedars and firs and offers panoramic views of Puget Sound. The surface is mostly single-track and is typically dry in mid-October. Elevation gain and loss per loop is about 1,306 feet and the route is largely runnable with some hills.
Distances offered:
- 50K : three loops
- 30K : two loops
- 15K : one loop
- 3-person 50K relay : each runner completes one loop
Each loop returns to the Start/Finish area at Owen Beach where aid and medical support are located. An aid station is also located near Fort Nisqually roughly halfway through the loop. Aid stations provide water, electrolyte, food, and fixed bathrooms. A time limit of eight hours applies and the organizer enforces a cutoff before the third loop to keep runners within that limit.
Registration includes a finisher medal and a long sleeve tech shirt when ordered by the stated cutoff date. Race packet pickup is scheduled before race day at a listed Tacoma location. Limited parking is available at Owen Beach and parking rules are enforced. A portion of proceeds supports the Humane Society of Tacoma and Pierce County.
