Event overview
The Defiance race takes place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, Washington. The event offers these distances:
- 50K
- 30K
- 15K
- 3-person 50K relay (each member runs one loop)
The course is an approximately 9.75 mile / 15.7 km loop. Runners in the 15K and each relay member complete the loop once, 30K runners complete it twice, and 50K runners complete it three times. Registration includes a finisher medal and a long-sleeve tech shirt when ordered by the shirt cutoff date. A portion of proceeds supports the Humane Society of Tacoma & Pierce County.
Course and logistics
The loop runs through over 700 acres of old growth forest with views of the Puget Sound and stands of large cedars and firs. The surface is mostly single track and soft trail. Elevation gain and loss per loop is 1,306 feet. Each loop passes the Owen Beach start/finish area and an aid station near Fort Nisqually about 5.3 miles into the loop. Water, electrolyte, food, fixed bathrooms, and medical personnel are provided at stations; participants are advised to carry one bottle of water. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before at Central Co-Op (4502 North Pearl Street, Tacoma). Parking at Owen Beach is limited; supplemental Anthony’s parking is available. There is an eight-hour time limit and a cutoff for beginning the third loop. Awards include overall male and female and age-group ribbons for the top five in each listed age group.
