Defiance 50K
The event offers trail distances through Point Defiance Park, using an approximately 9.75 mile / 15.7 km loop that passes through old growth forest and returns to Owen Beach each lap. The park includes more than 700 acres of forest and viewpoints of the Puget Sound, with sections of very large cedars and firs.
Distances:
- 50K : three loops of the 9.75 mile / 15.7 km course
- 30K : two loops of the course
- 15K : one loop of the course
- 3-person 50K relay : each team member runs one loop
The course is mostly single track, typically dry in mid-October, and is reported to be about 95% run-able. Elevation gain and loss per loop is 1,306 feet. Aid is available at the Start/Finish and at a Fort Nisqually station roughly 5.3 miles into the loop; water, electrolyte drinks, food, and fixed bathrooms are provided at aid stations. Medical personnel are located at the Start/Finish area.
Registration includes a commemorative finisher medal and a longsleeve tech shirt if ordered by the stated cutoff date. There is an overall time limit of eight hours for completing the event and course cutoffs are enforced. Parking at Owen Beach is limited and some spectator locations require short uphill walks. Awards include overall male and female and age group ribbons for top finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
