About the race
The Defiance event is an annual trail race hosted at Point Defiance in Tacoma that offers multiple distance options and a three person relay. The race uses a single 10.3 mile / 16.6 km loop through old growth forest and returns to the Start/Finish at Owen Beach each lap. The loop passes panoramic views of the Puget Sound, runs beneath very large cedars and firs, and includes an aid station at Fort Nisqually roughly 5.3 miles into the loop. The course is mostly single track, typically dry in mid October, and has an elevation gain and loss of 1,306 feet per loop.
Each loop is served by water, electrolyte, food, and fixed bathrooms; medical personnel are located at the Start/Finish area. There is an overall time limit of eight hours for the event. Registration items and event services include a commemorative finisher medal, a tech shirt with a guaranteed order cutoff, a collective bib with timing chip, optional hoodie purchase, packet pickup with a gear check tag, and race swag available at pickup or at the finish line. Entry fees are non refundable and transfers or rollovers are not allowed.
