Defiance 50K, 30K and 15K - Point Defiance, Tacoma
The Defiance event offers trail running on a 10.3 mile / 16.6 km loop through Point Defiance Park, which contains over 700 acres of old growth forest and panoramic views of Puget Sound. The loop passes through Owen Beach at the start/finish and includes viewpoints, a 500-year-old tree, and a Fort Nisqually area.
Distances and format:
- 50K: three loops of the 10.3 mile / 16.6 km loop
- 30K: two loops of the 10.3 mile / 16.6 km loop
- 15K: one loop of the 10.3 mile / 16.6 km loop
- 50K Relay: three person relay with each runner completing one loop
The course is mostly single track with an elevation gain and loss of 1,306 feet per loop. Aid and support include an aid station at Ft. Nisqually roughly 5.3 miles into the loop, water, electrolyte, food, fixed bathrooms at water stations, and medical personnel at the start/finish area. Organizers recommend carrying one bottle of water.
Registration includes a finisher medal and a tech shirt if ordered by the shirt cutoff date. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before the event at Central Co-Op in Tacoma. Parking at Owen Beach is limited and vehicles must use designated stalls. An 8 hour time limit applies and there is a cutoff for starting the third loop.
